I am going to start adding posts to my blog each week/month for things that I am enjoying, feeling grateful for or lessons that I have learned over the last while. With the onset of Spring, I am feeling inspired to try something new. So, here we go!
Our Easter was spent wandering through the White Spruce forest. The White Spruce forest is a hidden gem, tucked away in the southwest part of the city. It lies along the banks of the river and is filled with ancient trees, woodland and wildlife.
Lately I have been longing to get out of the city. Longing to reconnect with nature. The green grasses, tall trees, the wildflowers and birdsong. The forest is a sanctuary to me. It is where I go to heal, to feed my senses with the nourishment of fresh Spring air, the smell of cedar and moss. The forest is a Holy place.
There wasn’t a lot of green since the Earth is still waking from a long and cold winter, but there were definitely hints of new life sprouting up from the soil. It makes me feel hopeful for all the new growth on the way…
A few things I have been loving lately;
~~Embroidered jeans of all shapes and kinds, but especially floral printed. Lots of florals! These jeans are my absolute favourite at the moment. They hug my body in all the right places and have this fabulously frayed ankle boot cut. They are the kind of jeans that I would call ‘fancy pants’ because they make me feel fancy.
~~Rainbows! Rainbow prints and patterns. There is something so magnificent about a rainbow. It is the silver lining after the storm. It is the reassurance that everything will work out just fine. It is the universe painting the sky with colour. I recently picked up this wonderful little rainbow striped ruffled off-the-shoulder top that I am absolutely loving. It is so feminine and whimsical.
A few things I am grateful for;
~I am grateful for my body’s ability to heal from trauma & illness.
A couple weeks ago I experienced a terrible bout of anxiety. I was triggered by some environmental factors, as well as hormonal changes. It really took a toll on my body, and felt as though my body was being taken over by somebody else. It was frightening, to say the very least. I am happy to report that I made it through with the help of herbal medicine, rest, hugs and lots and lots of love.
~I am grateful for the arrival of Spring and sunshine.
I am beyond excited for Spring. The winter always feels so painstakingly long. I want to soak up every minute of the warm season as much as I possibly can. That means plenty of outdoor adventures, and going for runs and walks out in nature.
A few lessons I have learned;
~Listen to your body. Your body is communicating with you every second of every day. It is coded with billions of years worth of primal and ancestral knowledge. Try not to force yourself into situations that are not right for you. Honour yourself and where you are at right now.
~Feed your mind wisely. We are what we believe. Surround yourself with people, places and things that are going to contribute to your highest good. We are so much more than what our minds would have us believe.
