Collagen has been popping up everywhere these days as one of the most revered superfoods out there. The reason for this is because collagen is a protein that our bodies need in order to create connective tissue for bones, joints, ligaments, teeth, gums, hair and nails. As we age, the amount of collagen found in our bodies declines, which makes it important that we either consume it through our diets, or supplement with it.
This Chocolate Almond Bliss Collagen Protein Shake has got you covered. It contains three tablespoons of grass-fed collagen powder, which is enough to provide your body with around 20g of collagen protein. The grass-fed collagen I use is from an Alberta based company called New Earth Organics. Their collagen is my favourite because it is grass-fed, local and extra creamy! It is also flavourless so it will not affect the taste of whatever you choose to use it in.
There are different types of collagen available on the market. Most collagen is either sourced from bovine cows or marine sourced. When shopping for a collagen supplement, it is imperative that you find the the cleanest, purest collagen out there. I suggest looking for collagen from grass-fed cows, or wild-caught fish. I prefer bovine sourced collagen because I personally find the marine sourced to sometimes have a fishier flavour.
This shake is really simple to make and is naturally sweetened with dates. It is not overly sweet, which is nice. In addition to containing collagen, it also has some scarlet cordycep mushroom, sunflower seeds, oats, almond butter, mesquite powder and chocolate new zealand whey protein powder.
