With Spring being just around the corner, I wanted to do a spring themed DIY in the form of a Spring Floral Facial Steam, or as I like to call it “Grandma’s Spring Floral Facial Steam.” The reason I call it Grandma’s Spring Floral Facial Steam is because the flowers I chose remind me of my Grandma.
Just as new life blossoms up from the earth, most of us are shifting our focus towards starting something new. New creative projects, new fitness routines, new ways of eating, etc. For me, one thing I would like to revamp this Spring is my skin care routine. My skin has definitely taken a beating this winter. If you live in a harshly cold climate, then I am sure you can relate to the dry, irritated skin that most of us have been experiencing this past winter.
I’ve also been getting some breakouts on the left side of my face, which is odd. I don’t usually get many breakouts these days. However, I experienced a lot of stress over the last couple months which may have contributed to the breakout. My skin tends to take FOREVER to heal after I get some spots. I always have to take extra good care of it.
WHAT IS A FACIAL STEAM?
A facial steam consists of placing some hot water into a bowl and then putting your face over top of the bowl, so that the steam from the water can help to open up your pores. The steam helps your skin to breathe better by inducing perspiration and releasing toxins.
This Spring Floral Facial Steam is the perfect way to refresh your skin and pamper yourself after a long, cold winter. It is bursting with Spring colours from all the pretty flowers. This facial steam smelled absolutely divine when I was putting it together. Truly one of the best scents ever. Be prepared for your face to smell like flowers. Mmm..
I love experimenting with DIY skincare. There are so many wonderful natural things that you can make yourself, rather than having to spend lots of money on products that aren’t good for your skin.
BENEFITS OF A FACIAL STEAM
- Helps improve circulation in the skin
- Unclogs pores
- Will help your skin care products absorb better into your skin
- Perfect to use before a face mask
WHAT KIND OF FLOWERS SHOULD I USE?
You can literally use whichever flowers make your heart sing! I used a combination of gerber daisies, sunflowers, dried lavender and chamomile. It is completely up to you to choose your own adventure!
DIY GRANDMA’S SPRING FLORAL FACIAL STEAM
Boil some hot water and then add it to a bowl. Place your flowers into the water. Hover your face over the bowl, being mindful not to get too close to the steam. Place a towel over your head to cover the bowl and hold in the steam. Stay with the towel draped over your head for about 5 minutes. Apply your favourite serum or moisturizer afterwards.
Facial steams can be done on a regular basis to help promote skin detoxification. Once or twice a week would be ideal.
