These long, cold wintery days have got me dreaming of colour. Today I wanted to share a little burst of sunshine with you all in the form of these delicious & healthy Turmeric Smoothie!
This smoothie is so unbelievably yummy. You won’t even be able to tell that there is turmeric in it. A great way to start your morning.
Turmeric and Inflammation
Turmeric is known for being an anti-inflammatory, meaning that it combats inflammation in the body. The active component in turmeric is curcumin. Curcumin is where most of the health benefits come from. Curcumin can help the body manage joint pain & arthritis. Turmeric can be really difficult for the body to absorb. Which means it is important to take it with ingredients that will help improve absorption. Many turmeric supplements are blended with black pepper, or fat to ensure the turmeric is absorbed properly.
Absorbing Turmeric In The Body
The easiest way to get turmeric into your diet is to put it into your soups, stews, smoothies, etc. I used MCT (medium chain triglycerides) oil in this smoothie to help with the absorption of the turmeric. Rather than taking a whole bunch of different supplements, I am a firm believer in getting superfoods into your diet in whole food form. However, I do love supplements and take many different kinds myself. I just think it is important to go the food route first, and then supplement. Supplements should work to accompany a healthy lifestyle.
This turmeric smoothie is an excellent way to get a dose of turmeric into your food. Additionally, the turmeric flavour is very mild. So, you don’t have to worry about its flavour overpowering the smoothie. The banana, mango, pineapple and peaches help to balance out the intensity of the turmeric. I used Botanica Golden Mylk powder, which contains black pepper to help further improve the absorbability of the turmeric. You can also use regular turmeric powder in this smoothie and add some black pepper if you are overly concerned about absorption.
This smoothie is truly delicious. It’s definitely the kind of smoothie that will wake you up in the morning. I’ve been feeling very achy lately. I figured it was time that I started adding turmeric back into my health regimen again. This smoothie is full of healing benefits for your body, making a great addition to your daily routine!
