In an effort to save a little extra cash, I’ve started making a lot of snack foods from scratch. Jam is one of the easiest foods you can possibly make and requires very few ingredients and time. Every few weeks, I usually purchase a large bag of frozen mixed berries. I will use these berries for smoothies or to use on oatmeal. However, this week I was inspired to start making my own jam recipes again. This Mixed Berry Chia Seed Jam is so delicious and not overly sweet compared to some store bought jams.
INGREDIENTS FOR MAKING THE MIXED BERRY CHIA SEED JAM
To make this jam, all you will need is your favourite mixed berries, the juice from one orange, honey and chia seeds. That’s it! Can you believe how simple it is to make this chia seed jam? You could even omit the honey if you didn’t want any extra sweetness. I find the honey adds a nice balance to the tartness of the berries.
You might be wondering why I used chia seeds in this jam recipe. Well, chia seeds are jam packed full of fibre, omega-3’s and other nutrients. Adding a couple of tablespoons to your jam is an excellent way to ensure you are reaching your fibre intake for the day.
On my walk this morning, I was trying to brainstorm food photography ideas for this jam recipe. I came across some beautiful little chamomile flowers in the neighborhood that I thought would go nicely in the photos. There was also found some lovely coloured fall leaves that I couldn’t resist picking up.
Going for walks in nature feeds my soul. It gives my mind the space to think clearly and generate new ideas. Nature is so inspiring to me. There is so much beauty to take in when you are truly paying attention.

- 4 cup mixed berries, (fresh or frozen)
- 1 orange, juiced
- 1 tbsp honey
- 1/4 cup chia seeds

- Add to a mason jar to store in the fridge. Serve on toast or in oatmeal, or right off the spoon!
