Do you celebrate Valentine’s day? I am not really one to get too worked up over these kinds of holidays, but I am interested in the foods and colours that we associate with certain special occasions. Valentine’s Day is less than a month away, so I figured I would start slowly introducing some more healthy-ish desserts to post on the blog. I came across the inspiration for this Rose, Cardamom & Pomegranate Kefir recipe in the most recent addition of Alive Magazine, and thought it would be a fun & healthy way to kick off this short season of sweets and all things love themed.
If you’ve never checked out Alive, I encourage you to do so. It is a Canadian publication that is filled with healthy recipes that span all different types of diets, as well as articles about personal wellness. I’ve come across a lot of cool recipes in their magazine. I think it is available at most health food stores. Definitely worth checking out!
This recipe immediately drew me in because of how vibrant and PINK it is! I am a sucker for pink things. I changed a couple things up by adding pomegranate, vanilla and honey instead of maple syrup. In addition to how eye-catching this drink is, the ingredients are really healthy. The base of the drink is kefir. If you are not familiar with kefir, it is definitely a drink you should consider incorporating into your diet. Kefir is a fermented dairy beverage rich in probiotics which helps to feed the good bacteria located in your gut. It is almost like an extra thick version of milk/yogurt if it was mixed with kombucha. It definitely has a fizzy flavour to it.
Kefir is great to drink on a regular basis to ensure you are getting your daily dose of probiotics, or it can be consumed if you are experiencing digestion issues. It really helps to get things moving along a little more efficiently.
Rose & Cardamom
This beverage consists of some of my favourite Middle Eastern flavours, such as rose and cardamom. The rose and cardamom pair together so incredibly well. It’s almost as though these two ingredients were made for eachother. It’s definitely a unique flavour, and something everyone should experience at least once in their lives. A beautiful harmony of florals and citrus, herbal goodness! It also contains beetroot which is what gives it that beautiful pink hue. I think that this flavour combination would make an AMAZING ice cream. I might have to try this in the summer…hmmm!
This rose, cardamom and pomegranate kefir is honestly so good. It turned out a lot better than I expected. I always love when that happens. I think this drink would make a lovely brunch beverage, or even a perfect morning drink. It’s luxurious and feminine. Definitely a drink fit for a queen!
