This is one of my favourite go-to breakfast smoothie recipes that I return to time and time again. This kind of smoothie is the perfect superfood breakfast smoothie. I love it because it’s creamy, filling, refreshing and packed with whole foods. It is filled with healthy fats like MCT oil (medium chain triglycerides from extra virgin coconut oil), almond butter and ground flax seeds. These healthy fats are high in omega-3 and omega-6. As we know, omega-3 fatty acids are essential, which means the body cannot make them on its own. Therefore, we must get them through our food.

The healthy fats will also help you to feel satiated for longer, in addition to the protein. MCT oil also helps to boost metabolism and encourages weight loss. There is also a touch of cinnamon in the smoothie, which helps to stabilize blood sugar levels to prevent you from crashing throughout the day. There are so many other wonderful superfood smoothie add ins that you can throw in your smoothie to make it even more nutrient dense! Have fun with it. The MCT oil I use is called Brain Octane from the brand BulletProof. People who follow a ketogenic diet will often take MCT oil because of its high fat content. It also helps to keep your body full for longer, which makes it great to have before fasting as well.
This superfood smoothie mix makes for a perfect breakfast smoothie if you’re in a pinch, and also a fabulous post-workout drink.
Cacao Antioxidant Boost Superfood Smoothie
- 1 1/2 cup of organic unsweetened almond milk
- 1/2 frozen banana
- 1 cup frozen mixed berries
- 1 tbsp almond butter
- 1 tbsp organic MCT oil
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 scoop of chocolate protein powder, plant-based or whey
- 1 scoop of organic greens powder, i used Botanica chocolate greens. this ingredient is optional but recommended for added nutrients!
- 1 tbsp organic, raw cacao powder
- 1 tbsp ground flax seeds
- pinch of cinnamon
- Place all ingredients into a high speed blender and wait for the magic to happen.
- Remove from blender and serve. Best consumed either first thing in the morning or post-workout!
